The Journey Deck - Empire Playing Cards

The Journey Deck is a unique set of 66+ medieval playing and divination cards, specifically designed for the Empire Live Role-Playing (LRP) Universe. Created by Tony Porteous, this deck integrates a Tarot Arcana within its structure, offering both a functional playing card experience and a tool for divination or in-game lore. The cards are intended to be used within the immersive context of the Empire LRP, enhancing the medieval fantasy setting with thematic artwork and a bespoke card system.

The deck's design reflects its dual purpose, blending traditional playing card suits with imagery that resonates with the Empire LRP's lore. The inclusion of a "Tarot Arcana" suggests a set of trump cards or major arcana-like cards that likely hold special significance within the game or for divination. The physical presentation includes a cloth drawstring bag for portability, aligning with the practical needs of LRP participants.

Originally launched on Kickstarter in 2017, the project successfully raised $11,181 from 277 backers. The campaign offered various tiers, including options for multiple decks, custom dice, and even original artwork, indicating a strong appeal to both players of the Empire LRP and collectors of unique card decks. The deck serves as both a collectible item and a functional component for a specific role-playing universe.

The artwork features a hand-drawn, slightly rustic style with a limited color palette that evokes a medieval aesthetic. Illustrations are detailed, depicting figures and scenes in a manner consistent with fantasy art, often with a slightly distressed or aged texture. The image shows cards with a teal back design featuring a central circle and four smaller circles, while the face cards use muted tones like terracotta, forest green, and off-white. The line work is visible, suggesting a pen-and-ink or etched quality. The overall visual mood is traditional and thematic, fitting for a medieval fantasy setting.

This deck is ideal for players of the Empire Live Role-Playing (LRP) Universe who want to enhance their game experience with thematic accessories. It also appeals to collectors of unique playing cards and those interested in divination decks with a strong medieval or fantasy aesthetic. Readers who appreciate decks with a specific lore background and a blend of playing card and tarot elements will find this deck engaging.
