About Our Methodology

Our Editorial Philosophy

Flickerdeck approaches tarot as a tool for reflection, not prediction. Our card meanings are designed to help you think more clearly about the situations and questions that matter to you — without the fortune-teller framing that dominates much of the internet's tarot content.

We believe there's no single “correct” interpretation of any card. That's why our pages show how multiple artistic decks reinterpret each card — so you can find the voice that resonates with you.

Sources and Synthesis

Our universal card meanings draw from established tarot scholarship, primarily the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition (1909) and its modern derivatives. We also reference the Marseille tradition and contemporary interpretive frameworks that have evolved through decades of tarot practice.

For each card, we synthesize meanings across multiple life domains — love, career, personal growth, daily guidance — and provide both upright and reversed interpretations. These are not copied from any single source; they represent a distilled, editorially curated view informed by the breadth of tarot literature.

The Role of AI in Our Process

We use AI as a collaborative tool in our content creation process. Large language models help us draft initial content at scale, synthesize information from multiple traditional sources, and maintain consistency across 78 card pages and 15+ spread guides.

However, AI-generated content is never published without human editorial review. Our team verifies accuracy against traditional sources, adjusts tone and voice, and ensures that each page provides genuine value rather than generic filler.

We believe this transparent approach — using AI for what it does well (synthesis at scale) while retaining human oversight for what it doesn't (nuance, accuracy, editorial judgment) — produces better content than either fully manual or fully automated methods.

Cross-Deck Interpretations

One of Flickerdeck's unique features is our cross-deck comparison. For each card, we show how multiple artistic decks reinterpret the traditional meaning through their own visual and thematic lens.

These deck-specific interpretations are written to capture each deck's unique artistic voice — the way a card looks, feels, and communicates differently when reimagined by a different artist. We work with licensed deck content and always link back to the deck's page in our gallery.

Accuracy and Updates

Tarot interpretation is not a fixed science — it evolves with culture and practice. We regularly review and update our content to reflect contemporary understanding while remaining grounded in traditional foundations.

Every card meaning and spread guide page includes a “last updated” date so you know how current the content is. If you spot an error or have a suggestion, we welcome feedback.

What We Don't Do

Flickerdeck does not claim to predict the future. We do not provide medical, legal, or financial advice. Our content is for personal reflection and entertainment purposes. We encourage readers to use tarot as one of many tools for self-understanding, alongside professional guidance where appropriate.
