The Creepy Tarot Deck

The Creepy Tarot Deck is a 22-card Major Arcana set, meticulously illustrated by Stefanie Black, known for her Creepy Kawaii aesthetic. Launched successfully on Kickstarter in 2019, this deck caters to enthusiasts of dark and whimsical imagery, incorporating elements of monsters, demons, and the undead. While it focuses solely on the Major Arcana, the artwork is designed to align with the symbolic style of the classic Rider-Waite deck, making it accessible to those familiar with traditional tarot.

The deck is printed on Black Core Premium Plus (330 gsm) glossy cardstock, ensuring durability and a premium feel. Each deck comes housed in a custom-printed tuck box, which includes a small booklet providing simplistic card descriptions. This compact guide is intended to help users quickly understand the card meanings and begin their readings. The campaign also achieved a stretch goal, resulting in the card backs and tuck box being printed with silver metallic ink, adding an extra touch of gothic elegance to the overall presentation.

Stefanie Black's artistic vision for this deck blends the macabre with a distinctive, almost cute, creepiness. This approach offers a fresh take on the Major Arcana, inviting readers to explore profound themes through a lens that is both dark and playfully unsettling. The deck is positioned as a unique addition for collectors and readers who appreciate a blend of horror, fantasy, and a touch of the unconventional in their divination tools.

The artwork, as described by Stefanie Black of Creepy Kawaii, features meticulously illustrated monsters, demons, and undead figures. The style is intended to follow the classic Rider-Waite deck, but with a dark, creepy aesthetic. The campaign images show a distinct art style that blends gothic and kawaii elements, characterized by detailed line work and a color palette that emphasizes dark tones with pops of color, often in a somewhat muted or desaturated manner to enhance the 'creepy' feel. The imagery observed in the campaign visuals confirms a consistent style across the Major Arcana, where each card reimagines traditional archetypes through a lens of horror and fantasy, maintaining recognizable RWS symbolism while infusing it with a unique, unsettling charm.

This deck is ideal for tarot enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate dark, gothic, or horror-themed aesthetics, particularly those with an interest in monsters, demons, and undead imagery. It suits readers who are comfortable with a Major Arcana-only deck and are looking for a unique, visually striking interpretation of the Rider-Waite system. Fans of the 'Creepy Kawaii' art style will find this deck particularly appealing.

Stefanie Black, the artist behind The Creepy Tarot Deck, is also the creative force behind Creepy Kawaii.
