Tarot of Her 2nd Edition + Majors Expansion Pack

The Tarot of Her, 2nd Edition, is a distinctive 79-card round tarot deck created by artist Melissa LaFara. This edition builds upon its predecessor, offering a fresh interpretation of its core themes: the interconnectedness of plant life, lunar cycles, and feminine energy. The deck is designed to be both a functional tarot tool and a visually engaging art object, with its circular format encouraging intuitive readings and a departure from traditional rectangular card layouts.

This edition also introduces a Majors Expansion Pack, which is described as having an oracle-esque quality. This suggests that the Major Arcana cards in the expansion may offer more open-ended or interpretive guidance, potentially moving beyond strict Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) symbolism to provide a broader, more intuitive experience. The blend of a standard tarot structure with an oracle-like expansion caters to readers seeking both traditional guidance and more free-form introspection.

The deck's aesthetic is deeply rooted in natural imagery, featuring botanical elements, celestial motifs, and figures that evoke a sense of connection to the earth and its cycles. The round card shape enhances this theme, suggesting wholeness, cycles, and the continuous flow of nature. The campaign successfully raised $35,796 from 414 backers, indicating a strong community interest in its unique artistic vision and thematic focus.

The artwork of the Tarot of Her is characterized by a hand-drawn, watercolor style, featuring soft lines and a muted, earthy color palette with occasional vibrant accents. The circular format of the cards is a central design element, framing each illustration within a complete, cyclical composition. Figures, often feminine, are depicted in flowing, ethereal forms, frequently intertwined with botanical elements like leaves, flowers, and tree branches, or celestial bodies such as the moon and stars.

The visual style leans towards a dreamy and illustrative quality, with a focus on natural textures and organic shapes. While some cards, like "The Priestess" and "Warrior of Stems," show clear connections to traditional tarot archetypes, the overall impression is one of gentle, intuitive symbolism rather than strict adherence to RWS iconography. The "9 of Stems" card, for instance, shows a figure surrounded by peacock-like feathers, suggesting abundance or display, while "Infinite" depicts a central figure within a radiating pattern of hands, emphasizing connection and boundless potential. The art feels personal and introspective, inviting contemplation.

This deck is ideal for tarot readers who appreciate unique, art-driven decks and are comfortable with a non-traditional card shape. It will particularly appeal to those interested in botanical themes, lunar cycles, and exploring feminine energy within their readings. Readers who prefer an intuitive approach to tarot, or who enjoy combining tarot with oracle-style interpretation, will find the Majors Expansion Pack especially engaging. It is suitable for both experienced readers looking for a fresh perspective and beginners drawn to its gentle aesthetic, provided they are open to learning a system with unique visual interpretations.
