Star Crossed: A Queer Tarot

Star Crossed: A Queer Tarot is a deck created by the Michigan-based duo Nova and Mali, known as Lady Tarot Cards. This deck aims to provide a tarot experience that explicitly centers queer identities and experiences, moving beyond traditional gendered or heteronormative imagery often found in older decks. The campaign's tagline, "The fates said you're gay," directly communicates its core mission of affirming queer existence within the mystical realm of tarot.

The deck's visual style, as seen in the campaign image, suggests a contemporary approach to tarot illustration, combining strong character design with a bright, inviting color palette. While specific details about the card count or system (e.g., RWS adherence) are not provided in the brief campaign story, the title "A Queer Tarot" strongly implies a full tarot structure reinterpreted through a queer lens. This reinterpretation likely extends to the symbolism, character roles, and overall narrative presented across the Major and Minor Arcana.

Having successfully funded on Kickstarter with significant backing, the deck demonstrates a clear demand for inclusive and representative divination tools. The creators' passion for art and their personal connection to the queer community likely infuse the deck with authenticity and depth, making it a meaningful tool for self-discovery and guidance for its intended audience.

The artwork features a bold, illustrative style with strong lines and a vibrant color palette dominated by bright yellow and deep purples, as seen in the campaign banner. The characters depicted are diverse in appearance, with varied skin tones and features, reflecting the deck's queer focus. The figures are dynamic and expressive, suggesting a narrative quality to the illustrations. One character holds a sword aloft, while another carries a staff with a cat perched on their shoulder, hinting at classic tarot archetypes like the Magician or a suit card. The overall aesthetic is modern and energetic, designed to be visually engaging and inclusive.

This deck is ideal for queer individuals and allies seeking a tarot deck that authentically reflects LGBTQ+ experiences and identities. It appeals to readers who appreciate modern, inclusive artwork and desire a divination tool that resonates with their personal journey. It is also suitable for collectors interested in decks that push boundaries in representation and theme, offering a fresh perspective on traditional tarot archetypes.

Lady Tarot Cards is a creative collaboration between Nova (she/they) and Mali (they/them), who are based in Michigan. Their shared interests include art creation, spending time with their cats, and Nova's baking experiments. This personal connection to art and their community likely fueled the creation of Star Crossed: A Queer Tarot, allowing them to infuse the deck with authentic queer perspectives and experiences.
