Simplicity Tarot

The Simplicity Tarot is a 78-card deck created by Emilie Muniz, a tarot reader and instructor, with the explicit goal of making tarot reading simple and fun. Launched successfully on Kickstarter in 2020, the deck aims to demystify the tarot for beginners while offering a fresh aesthetic for experienced readers. The core philosophy behind the deck is to provide clear, intuitive imagery that aligns with traditional Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) symbolism, ensuring that card meanings are easily grasped.

The deck comes with a guidebook, designed to further enhance the learning experience, and is housed in a two-piece tarot box. A notable feature is the availability of a "Diverse Multicultural" edition, indicating an intentional effort to represent a broader range of people within the card imagery. This commitment to inclusivity, combined with its user-friendly design, positions the Simplicity Tarot as an approachable tool for personal growth and divination.

Physical production details include golden gilt edges on the cards, adding a touch of elegance. The campaign also offered various accessories, such as a signed High Priestess Simplicity Tarot Cloth, a wooden crescent moon tarot card stand, and a wooden keepsake box, suggesting a comprehensive approach to the tarot experience. The deck's emphasis on clarity and accessibility makes it suitable for daily readings and for those new to the practice.

The artwork is characterized by clean, hand-drawn lines with a watercolor-like wash of color, giving the illustrations a soft and approachable feel. Each card features a white border, with decorative flourishes of leaves and flowers in the top corners, framing the central image. The color palette is bright and varied, utilizing blues, greens, reds, and yellows, but applied with a lightness that prevents the images from feeling overwhelming. Figures are depicted with clear expressions and recognizable RWS poses, such as The High Priestess seated between two pillars, making the symbolism easy to identify. The overall aesthetic is whimsical and gentle, designed to be inviting rather than complex or intimidating.

This deck is ideal for tarot beginners seeking an easy entry point into the world of divination, as its clear RWS-based imagery and accompanying guidebook simplify the learning process. It also appeals to readers who appreciate a clean, hand-drawn aesthetic with a touch of whimsy and those who prioritize diverse and multicultural representation in their decks. Experienced readers looking for a lighthearted, intuitive deck for daily pulls or a fresh take on traditional symbolism will also find it engaging.
