Secret Garden: Renaissance Magic in Tarot

The Secret Garden Tarot is a 78-card deck that reimagines classic tarot symbolism through the lens of Renaissance art and a hidden garden motif. Created by artist Lotta, known as Una in space, the deck draws on over 15 years of design and artistic practice to deliver a visually rich and innovative project. The campaign successfully raised over $120,000 from 1,374 backers, indicating strong community interest in its unique aesthetic.

Each card features original illustrations that evoke the detailed, often somber, beauty of Renaissance paintings, set against dark backgrounds that make the intricate botanical and figural elements stand out. The deck aims to provide a classic tarot experience while offering a fresh, artistic interpretation. The blend of historical art styles with a mystical garden theme creates a sense of depth and introspection, inviting readers to explore the layers of meaning within each card.

The deck is designed to be both a functional tool for divination and a collectible art object. Its elegant presentation and unique artistic vision make it suitable for experienced tarot readers seeking a deck with a distinct aesthetic, as well as art enthusiasts who appreciate historical art styles. The focus on a 'secret garden' theme adds an element of mystery and natural beauty, enhancing the overall reading experience with a sense of discovery and hidden wisdom.

The artwork is characterized by a dark, rich aesthetic reminiscent of Northern Renaissance painting, specifically drawing on the detailed realism and muted color palettes of artists like Jan van Eyck or Hieronymus Bosch. Figures are rendered with a delicate, almost porcelain-like quality, and the botanical elements are highly intricate and naturalistic. The dominant color scheme features deep greens, earthy browns, and subtle pops of color like the red sleeves in the Five of Wands or the teal robe of Temperance, all set against a stark black background. This dark backdrop enhances the luminosity of the figures and flora, creating a dramatic and elegant visual impact. The style is consistent across the visible cards, maintaining a cohesive and sophisticated look.

This deck is ideal for experienced tarot readers and collectors who appreciate art-historical aesthetics, particularly those with an affinity for Renaissance art and dark botanical themes. It will appeal to individuals seeking a sophisticated and elegant deck that offers a fresh take on traditional Rider-Waite-Smith symbolism. Art enthusiasts and those who value a strong, cohesive visual narrative in their divination tools will also find this deck compelling.
