Invisible Light Tarot Deck

The Invisible Light Tarot Deck, created by artist Brandy Eve Allen, is a 78-card deck that stands out for its distinctive photographic medium. Each card's imagery is derived from rare and expired infrared film, which translates the visible spectrum into a surreal, often monochromatic or hyper-colored landscape. This technique results in images that are both dreamlike and stark, offering a fresh perspective on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) archetypes.

The deck was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2015, raising $12,424 from 92 backers. The campaign highlighted the unique process of using infrared film, which captures light beyond the human visual range, creating a sense of the unseen and mystical. This aligns well with the introspective nature of tarot, inviting readers to look beyond the obvious and delve into deeper meanings. The imagery often features human figures in natural or stark environments, emphasizing vulnerability, connection, and the interplay between light and shadow.

While the campaign story does not detail the inclusion of a guidebook, the updates confirm the printing process and reward fulfillment, indicating a complete product. The deck's aesthetic appeals to those who appreciate fine art photography and a more intuitive, less literal approach to tarot reading. Its unique visual language encourages a personal and reflective engagement with each card, making it suitable for both seasoned readers seeking a fresh perspective and art collectors interested in the intersection of photography and divination.

The artwork is entirely photographic, utilizing expired infrared film to create a highly stylized and often surreal visual experience. The color palette is striking, with deep, saturated reds and purples appearing in landscapes where green foliage would typically be, contrasting sharply with stark black-and-white or ghostly white figures. This infrared effect renders familiar scenes alien and ethereal, with a dreamlike quality that emphasizes light, shadow, and texture in unexpected ways. Human figures are often depicted in motion or in contemplative poses, sometimes appearing translucent or glowing, which enhances the sense of the 'invisible light' theme. The compositions are generally minimalist, focusing on the central figure or scene, allowing the unique photographic process to be the primary artistic statement. The overall mood is introspective and slightly melancholic, yet also deeply artistic.

This deck is ideal for experienced tarot readers and collectors who appreciate unique artistic approaches and fine art photography. It will particularly resonate with those drawn to ethereal, dreamlike, or high-contrast aesthetics, and readers who enjoy interpreting imagery intuitively rather than relying on literal RWS symbolism. It also appeals to individuals interested in alternative photographic processes and those seeking a deck with a distinct, non-traditional visual language for personal reflection.
