FORTUNE QUEENS: A Drag Race Tarot

The Fortune Queens: A Drag Race Tarot is a 78-card deck that merges the iconic imagery of the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) tarot with the vibrant, expressive world of drag queens. Launched successfully on Kickstarter in 2020, this deck offers a fresh, glamorous take on traditional tarot, making it accessible and engaging for a new generation of readers.

Each card in the deck features a drag queen embodying the archetype of its RWS counterpart, from the Major Arcana to the Minor Arcana. The interpretations remain faithful to the original RWS meanings, allowing both seasoned tarot enthusiasts and newcomers to connect with the cards through familiar symbolism presented in a unique, contemporary style. The deck is designed to be both a functional divination tool and a celebration of drag culture.

The physical deck includes 78 cards housed within a thick cardboard box, as described in the Kickstarter reward tiers. The artwork is characterized by bold lines and a colorful palette, bringing the drama and flair of drag to each card. This deck is positioned as a magical experience that blends the mystery of tarot with the glamour of drag, offering an intuitive and visually rich reading experience.

The artwork is a vibrant reinterpretation of classic Rider-Waite-Smith imagery, rendered in a bold, illustrative style. The color palette is rich and diverse, featuring bright blues, reds, yellows, and purples that evoke the theatricality and glamour of drag. Figures are depicted as diverse drag queens, often with exaggerated features, elaborate costumes, and dynamic poses that capture the essence of their respective tarot archetypes. The line work is clean and distinct, giving the illustrations a graphic novel or comic book feel. The visual approach is playful and celebratory, maintaining the core symbolism of the RWS system while infusing it with a distinctly queer and pop-culture sensibility.

This deck is ideal for tarot readers who appreciate a modern, queer-friendly, and pop-culture-infused aesthetic. It will particularly resonate with fans of drag culture, especially those familiar with 'Drag Race,' who seek a deck that reflects their interests and values. It's also suitable for RWS readers looking for a fresh, diverse, and visually engaging interpretation of the classic system, as the core symbolism remains intact.
