DAWAG: Overgrow Tarot

The DAWAG: Overgrow Tarot is a tarot deck created by Filipino artist ConvEarth, in collaboration with Paraluman Studio and hosted by Trzes Art. The deck features a distinctive art style described as primal, textured, and visceral, aiming to weave powerful and evocative scenes into each card. The name "Dawag" suggests an overgrown, wild, or untamed quality, which is reflected in the organic and somewhat dense visual compositions.

The artwork, as observed in the sample cards (The Fool, Death, The Moon), reinterprets traditional tarot archetypes with a unique artistic vision. The color palette is muted, relying on earthy tones, dark outlines, and subtle highlights, giving the deck a somewhat antique or hand-printed feel. This aesthetic choice contributes to the "overgrow" theme, evoking a sense of ancient wisdom emerging from natural processes.

While specific details about the card count or guidebook are not provided, the deck is clearly intended for tarot readings, offering a fresh artistic perspective on the classic system. Its successful Kickstarter campaign indicates a strong appeal for its unique visual style and thematic approach, suggesting it resonates with readers looking for a deck that combines artistic depth with a connection to nature and primal energies.

The artwork is characterized by strong, dark outlines and a limited, earthy color palette dominated by muted greens, browns, and creams, with occasional dark accents. The style appears to be hand-drawn, possibly with ink and digital coloring, giving it a textured, almost woodcut-like quality. Figures are rendered with expressive faces and dynamic poses, often surrounded by intricate botanical or organic patterns that contribute to the "overgrow" theme. For example, the Death card features a skeletal figure amidst dense, thorny foliage, while The Fool is depicted in a wild, untamed landscape. The overall aesthetic is both ancient and contemporary, with a strong emphasis on natural forms and a slightly dark, mystical atmosphere.

This deck is ideal for tarot readers who appreciate unique, art-driven decks with a strong thematic focus on nature, growth, and primal energies. It will appeal to collectors and practitioners drawn to darker, more introspective aesthetics, particularly those interested in folklore, botanical art, or a slightly gothic sensibility. Readers who enjoy decks that offer a fresh, artistic interpretation of traditional tarot archetypes will find the ConvEarth's style compelling.
