Sharon DelConte, a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist with over 30 years of experience, conceived the Circus Insight Cards after a flash of inspiration while listening to a lecture on Carl Jung. She connected Jung's ideas of symbolism and archetypes with the concept of "running away to the circus" to find protective characters, leading her to design a deck for emotional healing. She developed 78 circus characters in six months, then partnered with Brian Carver, whose graphic computer skills and design sense brought the project to fruition.
