Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Elder Futhark rune system?

The Elder Futhark is the oldest form of the runic alphabets, used by Germanic tribes for writing, divination, and magic. It consists of 24 runes, each with its own symbolic meaning and phonetic value. The BERKANA deck utilizes this traditional system for its cards.

How are the BERKANA rune cards made?

The BERKANA rune cards are created using a woodcut printing process. Each Elder Futhark rune is carved into birch wood, and then hand-printed onto the cards. This method aims to replicate the traditional feel of carved wood runes.

Is this deck suitable for beginners in rune divination?

While the deck itself is a tool, its suitability for beginners would depend on whether it includes a guide to rune meanings and interpretation. The traditional Elder Futhark system can be complex, so beginners may need an external resource or a comprehensive guidebook to fully utilize the deck for divination.
