Astral Atlas: Astrology Study & Oracle Deck

The Astral Atlas is a 54-card oracle and study deck specifically designed for astrologers and those interested in celestial guidance. Created by Joshua J Kes, the deck functions as both a learning tool for astrological concepts and a divinatory oracle. It covers a range of astrological elements, including zodiac signs (like Taurus), planets (Venus, Sol, Ceres), constellations (Ursa, Phoenix), and elemental forces (Water, Wood), alongside broader concepts like Wisdom and Beauty.

A key feature of the Astral Atlas is its inclusion of cards for 'cusp signs,' which represent the transition periods between zodiac signs. This detail caters to a more nuanced understanding of astrology, making the deck valuable for those who want to explore the subtle energies of these transitional periods. The deck also comes with a specific spread designed for analyzing one's star chart, enhancing its utility as a comprehensive astrological resource.

The cards are designed to be both informative and visually engaging, with each card featuring a central image, a title, and a brief interpretive text. The blend of specific astrological entities with broader conceptual cards allows for diverse readings, from detailed chart analysis to intuitive guidance on personal themes. The deck's focus on study and oracle use makes it a versatile tool for both learning and practical application in astrology.

The artwork is a blend of digital illustration and photographic elements, creating a cosmic and ethereal aesthetic. Each card features a dark, often starry background, against which vibrant, glowing symbols or celestial bodies are set. For instance, the 'Taurus' card displays a bright green constellation, while 'Venus' features a glowing pink planetary symbol. 'Sol' shows a fiery red sun, and 'Water' depicts a luminous blue moon or wave. Some cards, like 'Beauty,' incorporate natural photography, such as a waterfall, overlaid with a subtle rainbow effect. The overall color palette is rich and varied, with bright, saturated hues that pop against the dark backgrounds, giving the deck a mystical and energetic feel. The card backs feature a prominent eye symbol, surrounded by a rainbow-colored nebula, reinforcing the theme of cosmic insight.

This deck is ideal for astrology students and practitioners, from intermediate learners to experienced astrologers, who want a dedicated tool for studying celestial influences and performing detailed chart readings. It also appeals to oracle readers interested in an astrology-focused deck that includes nuanced concepts like cusp signs. Individuals who appreciate vibrant, cosmic, and digitally enhanced artwork with a clear informational structure will find this deck particularly engaging.

Joshua J Kes designed the Astral Atlas with the intention of creating a comprehensive guide and oracle deck for astrologers. The project successfully launched on Kickstarter in 2023, raising $3,498 from 47 backers. The deck's creation was driven by a desire to offer a tool that not only provides astrological insights but also supports the study of complex concepts like cusp signs, making it a valuable resource for the astrological community.
