Adorabyssal Oracle - The Cutest Cryptid Tarot Companions

The Adorabyssal Oracle presents thirty-six original illustrations of supernatural, mythological, and cryptozoological creatures, reimagined in an "adorable" style. Created by PixelOccult, this deck serves a dual purpose: it functions as a free-form oracle for daily meditations and divinations, and it includes rules for a quick and easy card game. The design aims for simplicity, making it enjoyable for both children and adults, and it can be easily carried for on-the-go use.

Each card features edge-to-edge artwork of a creature, an associated element, and a keyword derived from its folklore. The deck is structured around four elemental associations, with nine cards assigned to each element. While offering a straightforward starting point for new readers, the creator also mentions more in-depth groupings and structures for those who wish to explore further. The accompanying guide booklet provides brief blurbs on the creatures' folklore, themes, and the rules for the Adorabyssal card game.

Printed on coated 330 GSM German card stock, the cards are designed for durability and vivid color reproduction. The artwork, initially drawn at HD poster size, is scaled down to retain intricate details and expressions. The deck comes in a custom tuck box, sized to standard poker dimensions (2.48" x 3.46"), emphasizing portability and protection. Three bonus Kickstarter-exclusive cards—Spring-Heeled Jack, Khepri, and Cthulhu—were unlocked as stretch goals, expanding the collection for original backers.

The artwork is digitally illustrated with a distinct cartoonish, 'chibi' style that transforms traditionally fearsome cryptids and mythological beings into endearing, often mischievous-looking characters. The color palette is dark yet vibrant, utilizing deep purples, blues, greens, and reds, often set against shadowy backgrounds that hint at their abyssal origins while maintaining a playful mood. Each creature is rendered with bold outlines and expressive features, such as large eyes or exaggerated limbs, which contribute to their 'horrible adorable' aesthetic. The edge-to-edge artwork ensures that each card is a full visual experience, with a clean, modern graphic design that includes a keyword and elemental symbol at the bottom.

This deck is ideal for oracle readers who appreciate a whimsical, slightly dark aesthetic and enjoy working with creature archetypes. It particularly appeals to collectors of cryptid and mythological art, as well as those seeking a deck that can double as a casual card game for friends or family. Its accessible design makes it suitable for beginners to oracle reading, while the layered thematic structure offers depth for more experienced practitioners. It's also a great choice for those who enjoy portable, pocket-sized decks.

PixelOccult, the creator behind the Adorabyssal Oracle, has a history of producing tarot decks with specific interpretations and symbolism. With this oracle deck, the creator aimed for a more free-form structure, allowing for broader themes and moods. The decision to build the card game from scratch for this deck, and to include its rules directly in the physical booklet, highlights a focus on creating a versatile product that is both a divination tool and an engaging social activity. The creator's hope is that these 'cute and spooky creatures' bring fun to users' days.
